<body><![CDATA[American critics were kept away from Paul WS AndersonΓÇÖs<br>sci-fi franchise combo before it opened in August, but the producers neednΓÇÖt have worried: it took a respectable $38m on its opening weekend ΓÇô and the reviews actually werenΓÇÖt that bad. Just as when Frankenstein met the Wolf Man back in the 1940s, the beautifully unambiguous title says it all. Two modern movie monsters do battle in a giant pyramid temple somewhere under Antarctica (as you do). The humans (a cast bereft of even B-list names) get horribly caught up somewhere in the middle. Not one, then, for the Sundance crowd, but the film does exactly what it says on the tin, and thatΓÇÖs surely enough for the hordes of computer game-playing teenage boys at which it is squarely aimed.]]></body>
